Proper Overhead Crane Inspections: Don’t Forget the Runway!
During the life of your overhead or suspended crane, you should inspect the condition of the runway on which it operates for damage or wear. Depending on the frequency of use, the ratio of the wheel load rating, and the load capacity available for the track, these inspections may need to be performed more often than you would normally expect. The typical requirement for a running track on any crane is once per year. For heavy Class D or E cranes and any crane operating in a harsh working environment, you need to inspect more often, and in some cases much more often.
